Low Polygon
Character
With all of the recent advances in real-time 3D
rendering technology, the term "low polygon character"
has taken on a whole new meaning.
Low poly used to mean less then 300 polygons
with segmented joints and tiny textures. Check
out this very low poly character that Vector Graphics created
just a few years ago. Not anymore! Characters
today are much more rounded individuals with greater freedoms of
expression.
Take Julie for example. Her 1300 polygon
frame has smooth joints and a detailed enough face to allow
simple lip sync. Her design called for seven different
facial morph targets, the combination of which creates different
phonemes and expressions.
